The speaker is winemaker Isabelle Meunier and the format is informal, with questions for Meunier directed by Herb Quady of Quady North in Jacksonville. This session is targeted to both winemakers and to winegrape growers who want their fruit to produce top-ranking wines and command higher prices. A light lunch will follow.
Meunier is winemaker for Evening Land Vineyards in the Eola Amity Hill area of the Willamette Valley. She oversees the grape growing and winemaking, working works closely with Burgundian consultant Dominique Lafon of Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault. Since the start of the Evening Land project in Oregon in 2007, they have fully converted their monopole vineyard, Seven Springs, to organic and biodynamic viticulture and they craft their wines following the same philosophy in the cellar.
Prior to Evening Land, Meunier was associate winemaker at Le Clos Jordanne in Niagara, Canada, near her native Quebec. Passionate for cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown organically, she also has worked in New Zealand at Felton Road and Seresin Estate, as well as in Burgundy with winemaker Pascal Marchand at Domaine de La Vougeraie. Meunier was trained in viticulture and enology at Dijon University in Burgundy and completed postgraduate studies, at New Zealand’s Lincoln University.
